Map
This Google Map contains a list of: restaurants and wineries.
We didn't hike due to the rain, wouldn't be as fun. The leaves haven't fully changed colors yet. The best time might be late fall i.e. mid-November to see different color trees. I didn't have a great experience with beer and red wine here, given that those are my preferred booze.
St. Julians Winery 🍷
Our first point of interest is a winery, St. Julians Winery. As much as red wine lovers we are, we didn't like any red wines. Instead, we really enjoyed the white wine and hard ciders! The PBJ is good, but we don't see ourselves drinking another glass. I recommend giving it a taste!
Here is what we bought:
- Late Harvest Vignoles (Sweet White)
- Black and Blueberry (Hard Cider)
- Watermelon (Hard Cider)
- Cherry (Hard Cider)
J. Paule's Fenn Inn 🏨🍳
We stayed at a B&B J. Paule's Fenn Inn, 10 minutes drive from Saugatuck. The price was almost $100 cheaper than any lodge in Saugatuck. We love Paulette - great host, very friendly, and very thoughtful. There is complimentary food on the table day and night. We had the treetop suite, a full unit, and it is absolutely cozy and wonderful. I just can't emphasize on how much we enjoyed our stay!
Borrowed Times 🥘🧆🍮
As we rolled into the evening, we booked a reservation with a $5/person deposit down at Borrowed Times. This is more like a tapas place and the chef changes his menu every season! I regret not taking pictures of what we ordered... Here is what we ordered:
- Squash Gnocchi - Very delicious!
- Pork Belly - Sugar glaze, tasty but not for me.
- Short Ribs Stroganoff - Absolutely amazing, best dish in Saugatuck!
- Squash Crostini - Very interesting, I enjoyed it.
- Panna Cotta - A little sweet for us, but I loved this dessert!
Fenn Valley 🍷
Fenn Valley winery is a couple of minutes drive from our B&B. We had a free wine tasting couping from our B&B, so it was free :). We loved the peach & honey! The specialty wine version is a bit sweet for us, so we got the Spritzers version. We bought the specialty wine version for our friend Darrin who loves sugar more than money.
Farmhouse Deli & Pantry 🥪
I'm not a deli person at all. However, everyone was raving about Farmhouse Deli & Pantry on yelp. We ordered:
- Pastrami Sandwich - Delicious! It's not as good as Manny's or Katz, but it's pretty good
- Vegan Banh Mi - Delicious! I'm very impressed with this vegan-wich.
- Potato Salad - You can't go wrong with potato salad.
- Carrot Cake - There were a lot of good reviews on this dessert, but we felt like it didn't live up to its expectation. Not bad, but not great.
Uncommon ☕️
A local coffee shop, Uncommon. We ordered espresso and apple cider. Both were good. If I didn't have coffee beans at home, I would have purchased a bag of espresso beans.
The Olive Mill 🫒🛢
We love olive oil and The Olive Mill has a fusion olive oil mix. There were quite a few bottles that we really liked. Given the short duration shelf life of olive oil, we opted to only buy two small bottles. Here are the olive oil flavors that we liked:
- Picual - great flavor (bought)
- Tuscan Herb - herby olive oil (bought)
- Butter Cream - I think this would taste really good when cooked since it tastes very buttery
- Basil - I really enjoyed the flavor
Pennyroyal Cafe & Provisions 🥩🍝🥧🍹🍲
Pennyroyal Cafe & Provisions was jammed pack! We ordered:
- Bee's Knees - Jacki loved this cocktail
- Tomato Fennel Soup - Very delicious tomato buttery soup
- Parisain Gnocchi a la Norma - It was decent, not the greatest
- Short Ribs - Delicious!! It's hard to go wrong with wagyu. It's not as good as the short ribs at Borrowed Times, but it was good!
Places that we will visit next time:
- Salt of the Earth - Locals were raving, need to make reservations 1 week in advance
- Bowdies - Desserts look good! Need to make reservations in advance
- The Southerners - Chicken Sandwich
- Cranes Apple Orchard
